Notes:    

Robert was the fifth child of Gen. Henry and Alexandrine Macomb Stanton. Born and raised at Fort Hamilton, he was baptized at St. John's Episcopal "Church of the Generals", with Capt. Robert E. Lee as his Godfather. The latter was an engineer at Fort Hamilton and had served on the vestry with General Stanton. His Godson was named after him prior to his becoming the highly regarded Gen. Robert E. Lee, of the Confederacy.
