Notes:
George was a stubborn man and always wanted things his way.  He never went to school and could not read or write.  All he loved to do was farm and care for his mules.  He was said to care more for the mules than his wife and kids. He inherited farmland from the estate of his father, James J. Patrick in 1915. The estate records read:
   Patrick, George
   UNDER AGE: 21
REAL ESTATE: A undivided interest in the Estate of James J Patrick, deceased
and shown by the inventory of the Estate of James J Patrick, deceased now on file and of record in this office.
GOODS: An undivided interest in the Estate of James J Patrick, deceased and shown by
the inventory of the appraisement of said Estate of James J Patrick, deceased now on file and record in this office.
   DATE: 1 May 1915

Edith's family moved to Stoddard County from Illinois and she graduated from the Clines Island Grade School, 8th grade. She was married when she was 18.  In 1932, she broke her hip coming into the house when she tripped over a tree root covered with snow and ice. George wouldn't let her go to the hospital to get it set because he didn't want to take care of the family while she was away. They put her to bed with weights on her hips.  But, with an old featherbed, she kept sliding in the bed and the weights were always on the floor, so her hip never healed correctly, leaving her a cripple the rest of her life.  She tried to get by after George's death by taking in washing, ironing, and cleaning house for other people.  She even picked cotton, which was very difficult being crippled.

George and Eda were living with his mother, Dora, in 1920.
