Per the "Massachusetts Vital Records, Williamstown residents in 1830 with births and deaths 1761-1830", Holbrook/Fiche #3:  Jacob's birthplace shows Berlin but no state.  Berlin, NY is only 15 miles from Williamstown, MA.  His parents were actually living in Bern, NY at the time of his birth, which also is not far from Williamstown.  The registrar notes that Jacob moved to Williamstown in 1815. 

Betsey's birth can also be found in the "Massachusetts Vital Records: Williamstown. Residents in 1830 with births and deaths 1761-1830" Holbrook. Fiche #3. Dallas Public Library/Nov 1995.

The marriage of Jacob and Betsey is recorded in the "Vital Records of Williamstown, MA", although some records show them married in Allegany County New York. 

Jacob is on record at Williamstown, New Ashford, and Hancock, Massachusetts.  All towns are close together.  Births of the first seven of his children were recorded in Williamstown, although some of the children were born in New Ashford and some in Hancock  The family moved to Steuben County, New York about 1831.

The original spelling of the Surname was Galusha but it seems to have gotten changed between the purchase of land in Allegany County, New York in 1857 (Name shown as Galusha) and the sale of the same land in 1858 (Name shown as Galutia) when they were moving to Minnesota. The new spelling remained thereafter for the family that remained in the southern New York/northern Pennsylvania area (Squire, Jonathan & Jacob R.) but reverted back to the original spelling for Jacob in Minnesota.  (see: Land Records - Jacob Galusha)
