After Benjamin died, Martha took her family to Canada and settled in the same
area as her sister,
Safrona (Morgan) Quenett.
From "Down Memory Lane", ed., Simpson History Book Committee, 1986:
Martha (Morgan) Tisdale was born in the
United States in 1870. She and her husband, Ben, Had five children: Katie,
Leslie, Myrtle, Hazel and Pearl. Following the death of her husband,
Martha decided to bring her family to Canada. Katie had married Paddy
McGeough and they had one son, Francis. They all traveled together and
eventually settled in and around Simpson. Martha became one of Simpson's
longtime residents. Leslie bought the NE 17-29-26-W2, a homestead
approximately 1/2 mile from the Katie and Paddy McGeough homestead. 10 miles
west of Simpson. Martha and her children lived with Leslie until he was
married. She then had a home built in Simpson on Railway Avenue, where she
raised all her children.
LESLIE and his wife, Ethel, had three children: Hazel,
Violet and Bert. Ethel died after the First World War as a result of the
flu. Bert was only five month old, so he lived with his grandmother until
adulthood. Bert served in the Second World War, married, and now lived in
Tisdale, Saskatchewan.
MYRTLE married Archie Wilson, a barber in Simpson.
They had three children, all of whom died as infants. They adopted a son,
Oral. The family moved to Watrous in 1934 where Archie was a well known
barber for many years.
HAZEL married Andy McGonigal and they had seven
children: Ethel (deceased), Harvey, Esther, Marvin, Glen (deceased), Garth and
Joan.
PEARL married Walter Marvin and they had four children:
Beatrice, Jean, Don and Helen
Martha worked until she was 70 years of age doing jobs
such as cleaning the Municipal Office and the United Church. She lived in
her home until her passing in 1962 at age 92. She was best remembered for
her forthright manner, impeccable memory and extreme wit. She was a sister
of Lillian Safrona Quenett.
