From "Down Memory Lane", ed., Simpson History Book Committee, 1986:
Patrick Bernard McGeough was born in
Minnesota December 17, 1878. His wife, Katie Luella Tisdale, was born in
Hubbard, Minnesota March 3, 1889. Their son, Francis Patrick McGeough was
born in Backus, Minnesota, February 2, 1910. Following the death of
Katie's father, Ben Tisdale, the Tisdale and McGeough families came to Canada.
They packed a few treasured items into their horse-drawn wagons and started
north to the land of opportunity. For a brief time, the McGeough family
settled in Govan, Saskatchewan, where Bernard Benjamin was born.
Better known as Paddy, Patrick McGeough purchased the
SE 17-29-26-W2, a homestead ten miles west of Simpson, in October, 1910 (sic).
The family lived in a tent while they built their home.
In 1919, Kenneth Joseph was born. He was
delivered by Granny (Catherine) Elliot, a well-known, self-taught midwife.
Paddy and Katie resided on the homestead, moving to Simpson for the winter
months. Following the death of Paddy in 1962, the farm was sold and Katie
lived her remaining years with relatives in California, Simpson, and British
Columbia where she died in 1975.
FRANCIS worked on his father's homestead as well as on a
thrashing crew who traveled from farm to farm during harvest. In February,
1939, he married Helen Mae Jensen who was born December 31, 1913 in Nevis,
Alberta. Francis and Helen lived the summer months on the farm and spent
the winter months in British Columbia. Francis passed away in Hope on
April 7, 1974 at the age of 64 years. Helen presently lives in Hope.
BERNARD continued his post secondary education at
Campion College in Regina, then taught school at Lillyholme. He married
Monica Diamond in Young on May 9, 1936. Monica was born in Langdon North
Dakota, on September 22, 1917. About a year after their marriage, Bernard
and Monica moved to the United States and eventually settled in Costa Mesa,
California, where they still reside.
KENNETH was a pilot in the Canadian Air Force during
the Second World War. He eventually moved in the early 1950's to British
Columbia, where he died in 1972.
