Notes:
Bet 1862 and 1863 William served in the 43rd Ohio Infantry in the Civil
War. In 1867 he received a commission as 2nd Lt. from the Gov. of Michigan. He
fought in the Blackfoot Wars and commanded a cavalry squadron in the Battle of
Santiago in the Spanish American War. He also fought in Dakota Indian war
1890-1891.
In 1902 he was a Lt. Col 11th Cavalry and retired in 1906, breveted Brig. Gen.
In 1924, Gen Stanton received a Silver Star, retroactively from Pres. Calvin
Coolidge for service in the Spanish American War.
