Per The Colorado Springs Gazette, October 4, 1908:
La Junta, Colo. Oct. 3 -- "We the jury find the defendant guilty in the manner and form as charged in the information."
This is the verdict returned tonight after less than two hours' deliberation, by the jury which brought to an end the three weeks' hearing in the case of John E. Godding, president of the defunct Rocky Ford State Bank, charged on four counts of accepting money on deposit after he knew that his bank was insolvent.  As the words signaling his fate fell from the lips of the clerk, a sharp gasp escaped Godding's lips, though he immediately regained his equanimity.
Judge J. E. Riser granted 10 days in which to file motion for a new trial, and admitted the defendant to $40,000 bail.
