Notes:
Elijah was a Revolutionary War patriot, enlisting at the age of 14 in the Colonial Army.  He was a body servant to George Washington and was a prisoner of war on the prison ship "Jersey".  While imprisoned on this notorious ship, Elijah and his fellow prisoners were reduced to feeding upon vermin picked from their bodies which, in turn, contributed to his catching small-pox.  Following his release, his brother, Elisha, caught small-pox from him and eventually lost an eye.
