Notes:
Dr. Lorenzo Rathbone was educated in the State of New York and emigrated
to Illinois about the year 1822. He continued in the practice of medicine
and surgery until 1878 when, from the effects of impaired vision and the effects
of old age, he was compelled to desist, having been actively engaged in his
profession for fifty-six years.
Soon after Lorenzo and Permelia were married, an interesting disclaimer was
placed in the Illinois Gazette on March 19, 1825: "I hereby forbid all
persons harbouring or trusting my wife, Pamela (sic), on my account, as I will
pay no debts for her contracting after this date, February 16, 1825."
