She was born April 14, 1945 in Gary, the daughter of Richard G. and Edna (Dammarell) Whitten.  A Portage resident for 17 years, formerly of Gary, Graduate of Edison High School, Lake Station.

Survived by 1 son, Richard E. Wherry and 1 daughter, Edna Marie Wherry, both of Portage; parents, Richard and Edna Whitten of Portage; paternal grandmother, Lydia Denton of Momence, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 23, 1987 at 10:30 a.m. at Engle Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael A. Toburen of the Community Presbyterian Church, Lake Station officiating.  Interment Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville.  Friends may call Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Engle Funeral Home, located at 2700 Willowcreek Road.  For information 762-8595.
