Clarence E. Wheeler, 75, of Silvis, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

His visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 11, at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline, and a visitation 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 13, at Campbell Funeral Home, Norris City, Ill. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 14, in Norris City, with the Rev. Ron Philpot officiating. Burial will be in Powell Cemetery, Norris City.

Clarence was born June 24, 1931, in Broughton, Ill., to Christopher C. and Eliza Allen Wheeler. He worked as a business manager at the Correctional Center, East Moline, for 47 years, retiring in 1999. He married Mary Jane Spence, Aug. 10, 1952, in Norris City. He was a member of Northcrest Calvary Baptist Church, Moline. He loved to read.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Mary Jane; sons, Benjamin (Kim) Wheeler, Bettendorf, William Wheeler, Silvis; daughters, Julie Wheeler, Silvis, Laura (Rory) McKee, Moline; six grandchildren; sisters, Rosalie Pool, Ica (Eddie) Howard and Stella Mae Harper, all of Broughton. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Christine; and brother, Sherman.
