Name:   Vernon Epps Welker

Vernon Epps Welker of Fairview Heights, Illinois, son of the late Thomas M. and Mary Combs Welker, died Wednesday, December 26 at Scott Air Force Base Medical Center. 

Mr. Welker, formerly of Dexter, was a retired postal carrier.  He served in the Army in W.W. II and the Korean War, and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans -  Chapter Prairie State No. 14.

Surviving are his wife Irene McRoy Welker; two step-daughters, Janet McGuire of Fairview Heights, and Joan Greenwood of Anchorage, Alaska; one step-son, Gene Glenn of Temple, TX; four sisters, Fern Conley of Salem, Dorothy Hite of St. Louis, Mo., Kathryn Mosier of Phoenix, Arizona, and Lottie Joseph of Dexter; six step-grandchildren; also other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by one step-grandson, Eddie Starkey.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 28 at 10 a.m. a the Schildknecht Funeral Home in Fairview Heights with Rev. Bill Fox officiating.  Burial was in the National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks.
