Beatrice "Bea" M. Weessies, 76, of Portage, MI died Saturday morning, July 19, 2003, in Kalamazoo.

Bea was born March 20, 1927, in Battle Creek, MI, a daughter of  DeWayne M. and Nellie (Schoolcraft) Drallette, Sr.

She worked for Dr. Patrick for several years but will be most remembered for her ownership of Bea's Kitchen and The Harvester Restaurant. Bea was quite outspoken and unconventional at times, but was always a wonderful hostess and a great cook. She loved music and enjoyed playing piano and dancing.

In 1947 she married Robert Weessies and their marriage ended in divorce in1972.

Bea was preceded in death by: her parents; an infant sister, Luella Drallette; and a sister, Esther Dowd.

Bea is survived by:4 children, Sharon & Patrick Harvey of Climax, MI., Robert & Connie Weessies, Jr., of Climax, MI, Ralph Weessies of Climax, MI and Jay & Kathleen Weessies of Mason, MI; 9 grandchildren, Jennifer Harvey, Jeanine Harvey, Kevin Harvey, Jeffery & Kathy Weessies, Sarah & Jason Lawrence, Kyle Weessies, Kathleen Weessies, Suzanne Weessies and Claire Weessies; 4 great-grandchildren, Bailey Weessies, Parker Lawrence, Cali Lawrence and Jackson Lawrence;a brother, DeWayne Drallette, Jr. of Climax, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Private inurnment will be held later in Prairie Home Cemetery in Climax.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Climax Chapel, 205 E. Maple St.
