Wendy Lorraine Vant, 42, of Bremerton died March 15, 1999, in a train accident near Bourbonnais, Ill.

She was born March 22, 1956, in Bremerton to Vergil and Leona (Pygott) Vant. She grew up in Bremerton, graduating from Central Kitsap High School in 1974.
She worked as a purchaser at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport for 15 years. She began her federal employment in Seattle.

Her parents and her best friend, Helena Adkins, died with her in the accident.

She is survived by a brother, John of Port Orchard, and five sisters, Valerie Hinkle of Burlington, Robbyn Handel of Bremerton, Virginia Vant of Bremerton, Melissa Flowers of St. Marys, Ga., and Rebecca Phillips of Gig Harbor.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
