WATERVLIET -- Ira C. Van Alstyne, 81, of 1933, Second Ave., a Watervliet resident for 45 years, died Wednesday at the Veterans Administrative hospital, Albany, after a brief illness.

Born in Latham, he was a retired trucking contractor and served in World War I in the Army.  He was a member of American Legion Post 237 in Troy.

He survived his wife, the former Helen McGaun, by some years.  His survivors include two sons, William E. and Paul R .VanAlstyne, both of Latham; six grandchildren and two nephews.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with Leo F. Markert officiating. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Hoosick Falls.
