Albert Johnnie Ulsas, 65, of 3103 E. Mulberry St., the owner-operator of the E$mpire Market and meat processing store, died at 6:50 a.m. at St. Mary's Hospital.

Although suffering from a heart ailment, he continued to work at the store at 1121 First Ave. until his illness. He founded his store 20 years ago, and prior to that, had owned a grocery store on Fourth Street.  He had worked at several other stores and was a carpenter.

The Evansville native was also president of the Knight Township advisory board at the time of death and was serving his second four-year term in that capacity.

He was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Lessing Masonic Lodge No. 464, the Scottish Rite, Hadi Temple, Central Turners and the East Enders.

Survivors are the wife, Bessie; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Cast and Mrs. Ruth Odom, both of Evansville; a brother, Arthur of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren; and uncle and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Alexandria East Chapel, the Rev. Jack Richardson officiating. Burial will be in  Oak Hill Cemetery with memorial graveside services by the Lessing Lodge.
