Frederick William Toben, 86, a retired railroad worker long active in Masonic activities in Whitehall, died Sunday at his home at 32 Gilmore St., after a long illness.  Mr. Toben, a native of Whitehall, retired several years ago as a storekeeper with the Delaware & Hudson Railroad at Whitehall and in retirement operated a printing business.  He was a member and past secretary of Phoenix Lodge, F&AM and was on the Fellowcraft Degree team of the lodge.  He was also a past priest of the Champlain Chapter R&AM, a past recorder of Washington Council, Royal and Select Masters, and a past noble grand of Whitehall Lodge, Odd Fellows.

Surviving are two sons, George and Clayton Toben, both of Whitehall, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. from the Allen & Jillson Funeral Home, Whitehall, with Rev. A. H. Ganoung, pastor of the Whitehall Baptist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
