BOLIVAR -- Robert J. Thomas, 69, of 70 Boss St., died Saturday (Aug. 28, 1999) in Buffalo General Hospital after a long illness.

Born May 29, 1930, in Olean, he was a son of John and Nellie Winicki Thomas.  On Aug. 26, 1950, in Bolivar, he married the former Barbara Nicholson, who survives.

Mr. Thomas was a plant engineer at the former Cuba Cheese Company in Cuba for 25 years.  He retired in 1992.

He was a member of the Allegany County Industrial Development Agency, a life member of the Bolivar Fire Department, a charter member and past president of the Bolivar Lions Club.  Mr. Thomas was an expert, avid woodworker.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Thomas is survived by a son, John Thomas of Bolivar; three daughters, Celinda (Craig) Smith of Richburg, Anne Marie (David) Nenno of Bolivar, and Barbara (James) Chase of Richburg; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, June (Philip) Richardson of Bolivar; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Carl Thomas in 1982.

Friends may call at the Schaffiner Funeral Home, Inc. in Bolivar today (Monday, Aug. 30, 1999) from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  Funeral services will be Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.  The Rev. David Herne, of the Heritage AFlame Ministries will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Bolivar.
