Services for William A. Tennyson, 85, a resident of Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley, will be 1 p.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with military rites by Milan VFW Post 1303/American Legion Post 200/569.
Mr. Tennyson died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, West
Campus, Rock Island.
William was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Dahlgren, Ill., son of Frank and Edah
Tennyson. He married Johnnie Ruth Vaughn June 21, 1979, in Rock Island.
William was a World War II Army veteran, serving as a military policeman in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. He served as a driver for Gen. George S. Patton and received many decorations including the Silver Star.
William worked as a mechanic for Borden Dairy. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; daughter and spouse, Jewel and Clark Knight,
Taylor Ridge; granddaughter and spouse, Donna and Don Ditto, Sherrard; a
grandson, Dennis Knight, Rock Island; great-granddaughter, Sonia Johnson, Coal
Valley; two great-great-granddaughters; brother, Junior Tennyson, Phoenix,
Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
