Gene Taubitz, 90 years, of Temperance, MI died Saturday, December 31, 2011, in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo. He retired from the City of Toledo in 1984 as a Foreman with the Parks and Recreation Department for 20 years. The son of John and Antoinette (Inderbietzin) Taubitz he was born May 9, 1921, in Toledo.

A 1939 graduate of DeVilbiss High School, Gene was a WWII U.S. Army Air Force Veteran. He married Susan Laney September 30, 1949 in Toledo and after 60 years of marriage she preceded him in death March 11, 2010.

Gene's hobbies included hunting, fishing, and bowling. He was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed playing the piano. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3265 in Point Place and Jeep City Post where he had served as a Past Commander.

Gene is survived by his special friends Paul and Janet Gerity, and family, and many nieces; nephews; great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be Monday from 3 until 7 p.m. in Urbanski's Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Avenue Temperance, MI where the Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Toledo Memorial Park with Military Honors.
