Mrs. Clara Strain, 56, wife of James M. Strain, tobacco buyer of this city, committed suicide Tuesday night at their home on north Third street, by drinking poison.  She was found dying on a bed by her sister, Mrs. Ida Hemeneway, and daughter, Mrs. Autra [Ottry] Birge, when they went to the Strain home shortly after 9 o'clock to see why she had not gone to the home of her sister to spend the night as she had planned.

Medical aid was called at once but she was beyond all help.  She leaves, besides the husband, daughter and sister, two other sisters, Mrs. Sadie Collins, of this city, and Mrs. Laura Dressell, of Vincennes.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock this Friday afternoon at the Hemenway home on east Poplar street with Rev. W. M. Hawley officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery.
