BICKNELL --  Mary Jane Stiles, 87, formerly of Bicknell, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2009. She had resided at the Freelandville Community Home for the last few months.

She was born Sept. 7, 1921 in Bicknell, the daughter of James and Margaret Redmond. She married Howard Stiles in 1942. Howard preceded her in death on April 26, 1991. Also preceding her in death were her parents and brothers, James Redmond and Wilbert Redmond.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Carolyn Stiles of West Harrison; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren, James and his wife, Carole, and their children, Connor, Heath and Lilli of Fowlerville, Mich.

Mary Jane was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bicknell. She was a former member of Tri Kappa, Coterie Club and the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Mary Jane and Howard were part-owners of Mitchell's Furniture Store in Vincennes for many years and Mary Jane worked there as office manager.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at McClure-Utt Funeral Home, 109 E. Sixth St, by John McClure. Following the service, she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Howard, in Bicknell Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
