BICKNELL -- Howard B. Stiles, 72, 115 W. Fifth St., died at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

Employed for 35 years in area coal mines, he had attended the Aliceville School and was a 1937 graduate of Bruceville High School.  He served three years in Europe with the Army in World War II. He was a member of the First Christian Church, serving it as treasurer, deacon and trustee.

He was born Jan. 5, 1919 in Bicknell to Wilbur and Mary (Anderson) Stiles.  On Oct 14, 1942, he married Mary Jane Redmond in San Antonio, Texas.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Jim Stiles of Bicknell; two sisters, Marjorie Wampler of Bloomfield and Doris Hickey of Linton; and a grandson.  A brother is deceased.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the McClure Funeral Home, the Rev. Warren Stewart officiating.  Burial will be in Bicknell Memorial Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
