Services for Irene Stewart, 76, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at
Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow in Lyndon Cemetery, Lyndon. Mrs.
Stewart died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at her home.
She was born March 18, 1922, in rural Lyon County, the daughter of William and
Gertrude Thompson Galutia. She married Ralph D. Stewart on June 14, 1942,
in Lyndon. He died March 14, 1996.
She lived in North Dakota for five years before moving to Lawrence in 1967 from
Grand Forks.
She was a seamstress and a homemaker and had worked as a seamstress for Weaver's
and Mr. Guy's in Lawrence. She was a member of Red Dale Schooners Camping
Club for 25 years and was active in the Yamaha Electric Organ Group, both in
Lawrence.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah K. McCaskill, Eskridge; a son, Dennis L.
Stewart, Corona, Calif.; three brothers, Charles L. Galutia, Kansas City, Mo.,
Harvey D. Galutia, Lakewood, Colo., and Glen T. Galutia, Kent, Wash.; four
sisters, Fern Plackett, Osage City, Wilma Brown, Colorado Springs, Colo.,
Eleanor Huggins, Paola, and Mabel Lindsay, Topeka; and two grandchildren.
