Booneville resident James E. "Jim" Spencer died Thursday, Oct. 9 at Woodmont Health Campus in Boonville.  He was 83.

Jim was born Oct. 4, 1920 in Evansville to Herman and Ella Garrison Spencer.  He was of the Protestant faith.  Jim served three terms on the Warrick County Advisory Board and was a life-long Democrat.

He was a life member of the American Legion Post 200 in Boonville, where he served as Post Commander.  He was also a member of the VFW Post 3418 in Boonville.  Jim was a WW II Army Air Corps veteran, serving with the 45th Fighter Squadron as T-Sgt. in the Eastern Mandates and the Western Pacific Theatres.

Jim and his wife Edna Jane owned and operated J & J Cleaners in Boonville for 39 years.  Jim loved his grandchildren and their sports activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ella Spencer; a brother, Ernie Spencer; and a sister, Ruth Spencer Brammer.

Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Edna Jane (Edwards) Spencer of Boonville; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Ty Buttrum of Boonville; one son, Tom Spencer of Boonville; three grandchildren, Brooke (Spencer) Hart and her husband Ryan, Erin Spencer and Tanner Buittrum; and two great-grandchildren, Travis and Taylor Nicole Hart.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct 12 at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel with Rev. Kirk Horstmeyer officiating.  Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville with military rites by the Warrick County Veterans Memorial Services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Research Fund or the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
