ANGOLA -- Max E. Spangle, 87, of Angola died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006 at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital in Angola.

Mr. Spangle was born July 29, 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Roy C. and Pearle (Braman) Spangle Sutton.  He married Gloria L. Deller on Dec. 24, 1941 in Angola.  She survives.

He was a former part-owner of Hoosier Cartage and Angola Cartage.  He also was the maintenance supervisor at the Steuben County Courthouse.  He was in the 503rd Regimental Combat Team in the Southwest Pacific during World War II.

He was a member of Angola American Legion Post No. 31 and the Angola Rotary Club.  He was a charter member of Pleasant View Church of Christ in Angola and served on the board of directors for the Steuben Lakes Regional Waste District.

Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James and Susan Spangle of Angola; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah S. and Lynn Smathers, of Hudson; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and Jon Cleaver of Chicago, Kara and Cameron McElwrath of Auburn, Ill, and Michelle and Ryan Herbert and Matthew Spangle, all of Angola; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert F. Spangle.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pleasant View Church of Christ.  Calling will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church.  Memorials are to the church.
