JAMES ROY SPANGLE, 59, of Angola, died on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at IU Health Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis, Ind. Born Nov. 18, 1951, in Angola, he was the son of the late Max and Gloria (Deller) Spangle. He married Susan Lelja on March 20, 1976; she survives in Angola.

He worked at Wayside Furniture Inc., Angola; delivered fuel oil for Penix Oil; and worked at Essex in Coldwater, Mich. and Eagle Picher in Ashley, Ind.  He was a charter member of Pleasant View Church of Christ, Angola; Precinct Vice Committeeman for Pleasant 7, in Steuben County; Steuben County Crime Stoppers; Steuben County Sheriff's Merit Board since 2004; and coached T-ball, baseball and softball for the Angola Kids League. He lived on Crooked Lake and loved all lake activities. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. But most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Also surviving are his son, Matthew Spangle of Indianapolis; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Ryan Herbert of Angola; sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Lynn Smathers of Hudson; and three grandchildren, Landon, Ava and Ella Herbert. all of Angola.

Memorial service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Pleasant View Church of Christ, Angola. Pastor Alan LaRue officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at the church. Burial in Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola. Memorials to Steuben County Crime Stoppers or Pleasant View Church of Christ. Arrangements by Weicht Funeral Home, Angola.
