Weaverville - Mitchell Wesley Shepherd, 64, of 424 Old Mars Hill Highway, Weaverville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005.

Mr. Shepherd was born May 9, 1940, in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County most of his life. Mitchell was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed teaching his nephews how to hunt and fish. He was the son of the late Floyd Denver Shepherd. Also preceding him in death are his brothers, Kenneth, Blackwell and Jimmy Shepherd.

Surviving is his mother, Pansy Maney Shepherd of Weaverville; son, Michael Wayne Shepherd and wife, Amy, of Weaverville; sisters, Phena Howie of Thomason, Ga., and Matilda Mundy of Hendersonville; brothers, Jack and Roy Shepherd of Weaverville, Walter Shepherd of Warren, Mich., and Taylor Shepherd of Sandwich, Ill.; granddaughter, Stephanie; and special nephews, John and Kevin.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Revs. Bill Murray and Charles Phillips officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence.
