James D. "Jimmy" Shepherd, 75, of 270 Stockton Road, died on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003.

Mr. Shepherd was born April 16, 1928 in Buncombe County. He was owner and operator of  Shepherd Trucking Company in Taylor, Mich. for a number of years and a veteran of the Army serving during World War II. Jimmy was a son of Pansy Maney Shepherd of Weaverville and the late Floyd D. Shepherd, He was husband of the late Dorothy Cross Shepherd who died in 1992. Also preceded in death by brothers Kenneth and Blackwell Shepherd.

Surviving are his sisters, Phena Howie of Thomson, Ga., Mae Mundy of Hendersonville; brothers, Taylor Shepherd of Illinois, Mitchell Shepherd, the Rev. Roy Shepherd, and Jack Shepherd, all of Weaverville, and Walter Shepherd of Warren, Mich., several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Revs. Roy Shepherd and Charles Phillips officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The Buncombe County Veterans Council Volunteer Memorial Team will conduct military graveside rites.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday at West Funeral Home. Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.
