Duane A. Quenette lost his three-year battle with cancer on January 9, 2006. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his family. He was born January 31, 1940 in Fargo, ND.

Survivors include daughters Katherine Andrie of Denver, Jessica Hileman of San Diego, sons Matthew of Fairfax, VA, and Joel of Cook, WA. His surviving siblings include sisters Cheryl Zarns of Little Falls, MN, Charmaine Richard of Dent, MN, and Judy Halverson of Grand Rapids, MI, brother Robert of Fargo, ND.  Duane is also survived by dear friend Evelyn Quenette. He had 8 grandchildren.

Duane grew up in Fargo, ND, where he attended Fargo Central High School and was active in YMCA and lifeguarding at Island Park Pool. He then attended University of Minnesota on athletic scholarship and North Dakota State University. Duane qualified for the All-America Collegiate Swim Team in 1960. He placed 6th in the nation for 100yd breaststroke and 10th in the nation for 200yd breaststroke.  Duane married Mary Voth, of Fargo, in 1962. Mary was a close friend and strong influence throughout Duane's life. In 1963, Duane graduated from NDSU and entered 2 year active duty with the US Navy where he proudly served on the USS Constellation in Vietnam. He was employed by Control Data in Minneapolis, and SAIC in San Diego before retirement.

Duane's interests and talents throughout his life included shooting pool, playing racquetball, running, gymnastics, diving, and traveling. He cherished his time with family, friends and especially his grandchildren. In recent years, his favorite past time was afternoons at his boat in the marina with dear friend, Evelyn.
