OBITUARY

Vernon W. Prouty, one of the most prominent citizens of the town of Maplehurst, was stricken with a stroke of paralysis at about 7 o'clock on Saturday evening of last week, while he was busy with his chores, and did not regain consciousness but passed away at his home on Monday afternoon at about four o'clock. He seemed in perfect health when he left the house to do the evening chores and when found by his wife was lying beside the cow which he had started to milk.

Mr. Prouty came to the town of Maplehurst about fifteen years ago, when the country was practically a wilderness, and there made for his wife and family a comfortable home, improving it as years went by. He was for several years town chairman and treasurer of the school district, and at the time of his death was town assessor. He was always working for the betterment of the community and at times prominent in political affairs.

He was fifty-nine years of age and leaves to mourn a wife and two daughters, Mrs. George VanGorder of the same township, and Mrs. Warner of Stanley. Both of whom were at his bedside when he passed away. He was a man who will be greatly missed in his community by friends and neighbors, as well as his immediate relatives, because of his activities and gentle and kind ways.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at the home at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. E. C. Clark of the Congregational Church of Owen, Clark County, officiating, and burial will be made in the Thorp Village Cemetery, from which place he moved when locating at Maplehurst.

Those from away who have come to attend the funeral are Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Thompson of Neenah, and a number of cousins.
