Cynthia Poncek, Age 54, of Valparaiso, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Porter Hospital in Valparaiso, surrounded by her loving family. Cindy was born on August 20, 1953 to Lloyd and Florene Quenett and grew up in the Glen Park section of Gary, Indiana.

She graduated from Lew Wallace High School in 1971, and went on to obtain a certificate of Licensed Practical Nursing from Purdue University Calumet Campus in 1975. Cindy was a very dedicated nurse. During her professional career she worked for Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus in Merrillville, Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, and for Dr. Wallace W. Sherritt.

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd A. and Florene Quenett. She is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, William J. Poncek, Jr.; her 2 daughters, the pride and joy of her life, Kristin and Kara Poncek; 4 sisters: Sheila Q. Sax of Haymarket, VA, Sandra K. Quenett of Omaha, NE, Sister Jean Marie of The Cross of Pewaukee, WI, and Ruby (Tim) Leonhardt of Merrillville, IN; 1 brother, Lloyd C. (Carol) Quenett of Hobart, IN; father-in-law, William J. Poncek, Sr. of Merrillville, IN; and sister-in-law, Barbara (Don) Markle of Crown Point, IN; she will be missed by her nieces and nephews, Dustin and Joseph Quenett, Chilton and Nathan Slathar, Carla Price, Scott and Jason Strader, William and Erik Sax, and Jennifer Shevitz.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Geisen Funeral Home, 7905 Broadway in Merrillville, Indiana with Rev. Mark Wilkins officiating. Cremation will follow services. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday, January 11th from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
