OBITUARY

Name:   Seth Henry Phelps

From:  The North Adams Transcript, North, Adams, Massachusetts
Date:  Saturday, January 25, 1919

Seth Henry Phelps, a life-long resident of this town, died at his home on the North Adams road last evening at 8 o'clock after a short illness.

Born in Williamstown 78 years ago, the son of Thomas Cooley and Sophia Hosford Phelps, he had always made his home here.  Until about five years ago, he conducted his large farm in this town, now owned by Richard Stevens, but at that time he decided to retire from active life and since then has simply carried on his usual duties at his home.

He was a man highly esteemed in the community in which he made his home, home loving, industrious, honest, straightforward, a man of sterling character.

He is survived by his wife, Eliza Galusha Phelps, two daughters, Ruth of Dalton and Abbie of this town; four sisters, Mrs. Chauncey Whitney of Balston Spa, N.Y., Mrs. Sarah Lindley of California, Mrs. Sophia Johnson of Northampton and Mrs. Briggs Blake of Williamstown.

The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon from his late home at 2:30 o'clock and burial will be in Eastlawn cemetery.  Rev. Edward McMasters of the Congregational church will officiate.
