Norman E. Orvis, 78, of Clare, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at home following a long illness.

Born May 9, 1923 in Clare County, he was the son of Forest and Alta (Spicer) Orvis. He was a lifetime resident of Clare County.

Norman married Freda (Boyer), April 5, 1952 in Arthur Township. She preceded him in death in 1998. He was a farmer and a member of the Arthur Center Church of God.

He is survived by three sons, Jim and wife Judy of Gladwin, and Mark and wife Barb and Rex and wife Jody, all of Clare; four daughters, Joy and husband Terry Mathews of Mecosta, Brenda and husband Ron Dion of Gladwin, Teresa and husband Tim Ostroski of Sterling, and Kelly Gross of Clare; 27 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronald of Midland; and four sisters, Betty Day and Freda Bertsch, both of Tawas, Arlene Cuddie of Gladwin, and Elnora Penrose of Flushing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and one great-granddaughter, Jazmine Hisey.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin with Rev. Henry List officiating. Burial was in Arthur Township Cemetery in Clare County.
