Mrs. John E. Orvis, 72, of 81 Colvin Avenue, died at 11:16 a.m. today at her home following a year's illness. 

Mrs. Orvis was born Jan. 4, 1876, in Sheridan township, the daughter of James and Christie (Green) Wood.  She was married to John E. Orvis on Feb. 25, 1893 in Clare county and has lived in Battle Creek with her husband since 1919.  She was a former member of the Maccabees here. 

Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Fern Wright of Clare and Mrs. Imogene Wilkinson of 81 Colvin Avenue; a son, James Orvis of Detroit; three brothers, Jesse Wood of 5 Pauline; John B. Wood of Clare; and Charles C. Wood of Walla Walla, Wash.; a sister, Mrs. C.D. Harvey of Clare; and 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
