David Lesley Nelson, 57, 167 N. Terrace, Culver, died at 4 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Parkview Hospital, Plymouth, following a sudden illness.

He was born Oct. 9, 1935, in Lebanon, the son of Dr. Robert H. and Alma (Lesley) Nelson.  She survives.

He had lived in Culver for 28 years and was head football coach at Culver Academies.

He was married July 16, 1971, in Marion, to Elizabeth A. Oldham, who survives.

Also surviving are daughters Lesley (Mrs. Tave) Reser of Indianapolis, Mary Beth (Mrs. Joseph) Hardesty of North Vernon, and Susan (Mrs. Daniel) Salinas of San Diego, Calif.; sons, David L. Nelson of Seattle, Wash, and John M. Oldham of South Windsor, Conn.; three grandchildren; brothers Robert L, and John L. Nelson, both of Lebanon, several nieces and one nephew.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Culver Academies Memorial Chapel on the campus of Culver Military Academy, with Chaplain Tom Stephen and the Rev. James Morin, Indianapolis,  officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, with committal services set at 4 p.m. Monday in Powell Chapel.

Friends will be received at Bonine Funeral Home, 104 Lakeshore Dr., Culver, from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
