Mrs. Leila Vaughn Montgomery, 64, widow of Lew Montgomery East Arlington, died Monday night at Putnam Memorial Hospital.  She had been confined to her home the past six months and took a turn for the worse last weekend and was moved to the hospital.

Mrs. Montgomery was born in Shaftsbury Dec. 19, 1980, daughter of George and Julia Andrew Vaughn.  The major part of her life had been spent in the Arlington area where she was well known and highly respected.  A retired schoolteacher, she had taught for many years in Sandgate.

Her special hobbies had been antique collecting, specializing in buttons.  She was also a horse fancier and for years always owned one or two thoroughbreds.  Her affiliations included membership in the First Baptist Church, Bennington, the Arlington Garden Club, and the Enterprise Society of East Arlington.  She had been most active until six months ago.

Survivors are three children, Lewie Montgomery of East Arlington; Mrs. Wilma Rice and Mrs. Stella Field; five grandchildren; one brother, Curnel Vaughn of West Arlington.

The body will remain at Stevens Funeral Home, Arlington till 2 p.m. Thursday.  The funeral will be held at that hour from the Federated Church, East Arlington, with the Rev. Robert Neale officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery Shaftsbury in the spring.  Friends may call at the funeral home at 7 o'clock tonight and tomorrow.
