73-year-old resident of Carmi, John F. Mitchell, passed away 7:40 a.m. Friday,
Oct. 31, 2003, at his residence in Carmi.
He was born Nov. 12, 1929, in Enfield, the son of Leo
Edward and Cora Marie Biggerstaff Mitchell. He married Agnes Marie Drone Sept.
1, 1954. He was a retired switchman for GTE.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW Post No.
3851. He attended the First Christian Church of Carmi.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Agnes Mitchell of Carmi; a daughter and
son-in-law, Susan Lynn and Richard Stocke of Owensboro, Ky.; four sons and
daughters-in-law, Joseph Paul and Jema Mitchell of Carmi, John Timothy Mitchell
of McLeansboro, Phillip Alan Mitchell of Carmi and Ronald Francis and Latonya
Mitchell of Norris City; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Jo and Delbert
York of Shawneetown and Helena Luster of Grand Prairie, Texas; a sister-in-law,
Ruth Mitchell of Dahlgren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Virginia
Mitchell and Bernard and Marie Mitchell, all of Enfield; a brother-in-law, Tom
Hanagan of Gettysburg, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Amanda, Jade, Andrew, Caleb,
Jared and Hannah Mitchell and Sarah, Jonathan and Nathanael Stocke; and one
great-grandson, Klayton Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Hanagan and Gertrude Mitchell; and
two brothers, Paul and Wilford Mitchell.
Funeral services for John F. Mitchell will be held 2
p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at the First Christian Church in Carmi with Robby
King and Phillip Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Enfield Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi after 6 p.m. Saturday,
Nov. 1, 2003. The body will lie in state at the church after 1 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be given to the First Christian
Church in Carmi for the Season of Hope Ministries in memory of John Mitchell.
