ELLICOTTVILLE - Roger A. Mercer, 82, of Elizabeth Street, died Sunday (Nov. 27,
2005) at the Buffalo General Hospital.
He was born Sept. 8, 1923 in Ellicottville, the son of the late Alfred and
Callalee (Spittler) Mercer.
On August 29, 1953 in Ellicottville, he married the former Patricia Loveless,
who predeceased him Aug. 27, 1992.
Mr. Mercer was the owner and operator of Mercer Electric in Ellicottville for
many years and later at Holiday Valley for 15 years.
He was a member of Holy Name of Mary RC Church in Ellicottville, an exempt
Fireman with the Ellicottville, Vol. Fire Dept. and a very active member with
the Ellicottville Historical Association, where he wrote the Story of
Ellicottville. He enjoyed playing cards and his dog "Gus."
He is survived by a son, Thomas Mercer of Ellicottville and a daughter, Teresa
Wagner of Ellicottville and a granddaughter, Calla Lee Wagner. Also surviving is
a brother, Calvin Mercer of Ellicottville and a sister, Ellen Jackson of San
Antonio, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the O'Rourke Funeral
Home, 411 Rock City, Little Valley.
