Shirley V. Mayberry, 76, McLeansboro, died at 7:49 a.m. Saturday,
Oct. 4, 2008, at her home.
She was born on June 14, 1932, in Huron, S.D., a daughter of James Ernest and
Alice Augusta (Langbehn) Lyman. She married Joseph "Joe" Alvin Mayberry Sr. on
July 18, 1951; he survives.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Mayberry is survived by sons Joseph A. Mayberry
Jr. and wife Julie of Benton, Anthony Mayberry and wife Anna of Maple Grove,
Minn., and James Mayberry of Augusta, Ga.; daughters Donna Roberts and husband
Joe of Raleigh, Ill., Judith Ford and husband Bill of Evansville, Ind., Teresa
Taylor of Salem and Rhonda Ireland of McLeansboro; daughter-in-law Terry
Mayberry of McLeansboro; a brother, James Lyman and wife Joyce of Southport,
Fla.; a sister, Wanda Hurd of Rapid City, S.D.; 17 grandchildren; and 23
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, David Mayberry.
Mrs. Mayberry was a retired nurse who worked at the former Carmi Township
Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon for 38 years. She was a
member of St. Clement's Catholic Church in McLeansboro.
Funeral services were Tuesday at St. Clement's Catholic Church with Monsignor
Joseph Lawler officiating. Burial was at St. Clement's Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice and will be accepted at Gholson
Funeral Home in McLeansboro, which was in charge of arrangements.
