EAST PEORIA, IL - Percy Laverne Mayberry, 80, of Memphis, MO, formerly of East
Peoria, IL, passed away Wednesday evening, July 11, 2001, in the Clark County
Nursing Home in Kahoka, MO.
The son of Matt and Neva (Hesler) Mayberry, he was born on July 4, 1921, near
McLeansboro, IL. He attended the local school and helped his parents on the
family farm.
He was married to Betty J. Sylvester on June 19, 1942 in Palmyra, MO. She
preceded him in death on March 12, 1994.
During the mid 1930s, Percy joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and
worked in the Shawnee National Forest. He served in the United States Navy
during World War II , being discharged December 13, 1945. He was a longtime
employee of Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria, Il, retiring with forty years
seniority. Following his retirement, he spent many winters in Texas.
He enjoyed fishing and traveling. He was a member of the Dayton Avenue Baptist
Church in Peoria, IL.
Preceding him in death were his wife; three sons, Billy Joe, Terry Ray, and
Ricky Lee; two sisters; four brothers; and one sister-in-law.
Survivors include one son, Norman and his wife Joy Mayberry of Memphis, MO;
three grandchildren, Tony T. Mayberry of Memphis, MO, Susan and her husband
Robert Boehm of Olympia Fields, IL, Cindy and her husband Jobe Justice of
Memphis, MO: five great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Bess Mayberry of
Pekin, IL, Ruby Mayberry of Washington, IL, and Wanda Mayberry of Chillicothe,
IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Interment was in the Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria, IL.
