SHAFTSBURY -- Mrs. Myrtle Mae Lane, wife of John B. Lane, a lifelong resident of Shaftsbury, died Friday at Putnam Memorial Hospital at the age of 79.

Born in Shaftsbury June 12, 1885, she was a daughter of George and Samantha Elwell Greene.  She was educated at Shaftsbury schools and North Bennington High School, and was married in December 1906.

Mrs. Lane was a member of the Shaftsbury Methodist Church and a former member of the Harwood Hill Home Demonstration Group.

Besides her husband, she leaves four daughters, Mrs. Olin (Ruth) Cross of Shaftsbury, Mrs. Arnold (Georgianna) Wright of North Bennington, Mrs. Lucious (Gertrude) Wood of Bennington, and Mrs. Kenneth (Jennie) Rice of North Bennington; an adopted son, John M. Cross of Shaftsbury; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 2:30 Sunday at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington with the Rev. A. J. MacDonald, pastor of the Shaftsbury Methodist Church, officiating.  The family will be in attendance at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
