SHAFTSBURY -- John Benjamin Lane, 79, of Shaftsbury, an employee of Eagle Square Mfg. Co., for half a century and many of these years, a foreman there, died Thursday night at Putnam Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Pownal Dec.25, 1885, he was a son of Simeon and Mary Elizabeth (Truman) Lane.  His education had been received in Shaftsbury schools.  Hunting and fishing had been among his favorite pastimes.  He married the former Myrtle Green, who died January, 1964.

Survivors are one son, John M. Cross of Shaftsbury; four daughters, Mrs. Olin (Ruth) Cross of Shaftsbury, Mrs. Bennington and Mrs. Kenneth (Jennie) Rice of North Bennington.  He also leaves grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, Bennington, Sunday at 2:30 p.m.  The Rev. A. J. MacDonald, pastor of the Shaftsbury Methodist Church, of which Mr. Lane was a member, will officiate.  Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

SHAFTSBURY -- In the obituary of John B. Lane in Friday's Banner, the complete list of his four surviving daughters was inadvertently omitted.  They are Mrs. Olin Cross of Shaftsbury, Mrs. Arnold Wright of Bennington, Mrs. Lucius Wood of Bennington and Mrs. Kenneth Rice of North Bennington.
