LYONS - Theron Lee Kelley, 80, died Sept. 30, 20`10, at his home. He was born Oct. 9, 1929, in Great Bend, the son of Bowman H. and Goldie W. Dunn Kelley. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1948 and attended Hutchinson Junior College. A longtime resident of Lyons, he retired from Young Motors' parts department and was a bus driver for USD 405 for 13 years.
He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He belonged to First Christian Church, Lyons, was a 25-year volunteer firefighter serving as the County Captain and was a former Lions Club and Odd Fellows member.
On Aug. 29, 1949, he married Merna John in Lyons. She survives. Other survivors include: five sons, John and Kathy, Lyons, Pat and Helen, Edmond, Okla., Mark, Lyons, Bob and Lyn, Mabank, Texas, and Ted and Cary, Gun Barrel City, Texas; a daughter, Kala and Donald Searcy, Weston, Mo.; a sister, Beverly Root, Lyons; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Thane; a daughter-in-law, Nellie Kelley; and a grandson, Chad Kelley.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with the Rev. Ron DeVore presiding. Burial will be in Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons, with honors by the Lyons Fire Department. Memorials may be sent to the Lyons Fireman Memorial Fund, or Hospice Care of Kansas, both in care of the funeral home.
