Hilda M. Jones, 97, of West Oakview Road, died Monday, September 21, 2009.
Hilda was born in Waynesville but lived in areas of Biltmore, Asheville and Enka
for all of her life.
She was the daughter of the late Lorenzo Douglas and Daisy Buckner Maney and
wife of the late William A. Bill Jones, who died in 1978.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Howard Maney, a
sister, Kathryn Thompson and a granddaughter, Debra Jones.
Hilda was a 1929 graduate of Biltmore High School, attended Biltmore Junior
College and Meredith, studying music and piano.
She was the organist at West Asheville Baptist Church for 23 years and the
organist with Groce Funeral Home for 50 years.
Hilda is survived by two sons, William Don Jones and wife, Gail, of Asheville
and David A. Jones and wife, Dorothy, of Stafford, VA; two grandsons, Kevin W.
Jones and wife, Jennifer, and Christopher D. Jones; two great grandchildren,
Riley W. Jones and Darden E. Jones; three nieces, Dee Smith, Beth Louis and
Janet Scholl and one nephew, Jerry Maney.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton
Avenue conducted by the Rev. Dr. James H. Johnson and the Rev. G. Scott Lynch.
Interment will follow in Green Hills Cemetery.
