ARKPORT -- Irene A. Hurlbut, 80, of 37 Main St., died Monday (March 28, 1988) in Mesa, Arizona following a lengthy illness.

Born Feb 27, 1908, in Austin, Pa., daughter of John and Hazel Wesley, she lived in Arkport for more than 50 years.

She was owner and manager of Dealey's Liquor Store in Hornell for about 20 years, retiring 18 years ago,  She was married for more than 40 years to James Hurlbut, who died 15 years ago.

She was a member of the Arkport Presbyterian Church, Arkport Garden Club, Arkport American Legion Auxiliary, Hornell VFW Auxiliary and the Hornell Women of the Moose.

Survivors include three sons, James Jr. of Hamburg, Roger of Buffalo, and John of Mesa; one daughter, Gene Hare of Palm Springs, Calif.; two sisters, Geraldine Oxx and Vivian Mosher, both of Hornell; 5 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Dagon Funeral Home of Hornell.  A service will be at noon Thursday at the Arkport Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Chumley officiating.  Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Hornell.
