George Walter Hughes, 2305a Delmar avenue, Granite City, Ill., died of general infirmities at 3:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 8, 1960 at Barnes hospital, St. Louis.  He had been ill 10 days and in the hospital a week.

A resident of here 42 years, Mr. Hughes was born in Greenville, Mo. He was retired 14 years from Granite City Engineer Depot.  One of his sons, Lyman Hughes, has owned and operated the Tri-City Radio Co., 1900 State street, for the past 15 years.

Other survivors are a son, Walter Hughes of Granite City; four daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Lillie) Hefferly of Granite City, Mrs. Irene Niehaus of Granite City, Mrs. Vincent (Kathleen) Wondra of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mrs. William (Edna) Douglas of Saratoga, Calif.; a brother, Arthur Hughes of Patterson, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Etta Duncan of Aberdeen, Wash; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be from Lahey Funeral Home, 501 Madison avenue at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
