Lifetime Eckert-area resident Moad M. Horn died at the Palisade Living Center on Wednesday, Feb. 13. He was 101.

On Sept. 2, 1906, Moad M. was born the son of Levi and Maude Horn in Ochiltree, Texas. He spent his childhood and attended school in Eckert.  Moad furthered his education at Western State College in Gunnison.

On Dec. 24, 1928, Moad married the love of his life, Eula V. Hawkins, in Cedaredge.  Moad and Eula would have celebrated 80 years of love and marriage together this year. Eula survives.

Moad's orchards were his pride and joy for many years. In his younger years, he also enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and playing competitive games of pinochle. Moad was also a member of the Eckert IOOF. In 2006, on Moad's 100th birthday, the town of Orchard City proclaimed Sept. 2 as "Moad Horn Day."

Moad is survived by his beloved wife, Eula Horn of Eckert; son Richard (Bobbie) D. "R.D." Horn, daughter Sharon K. Luster of Tye, Texas; sister Retta Vela of Montrose, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Moad was preceded in death by daughter Phyllis Kathryn Rogers.

A funeral service was held Feb. 18 at the Eckert Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Eckert Cemetery.
