OBITUARY

Name:   Charles August Hooker

From:  The Times-Leader, McLeansboro, Illinois
Date:  April, 1966

In the early hours of March 31, 1966, the chariot of God swung low and carried to his Heavenly Home, our beloved friend and neighbor Charles A. Hooker.  He was born June 13, 1885, the son of George and Hester (Mangis) Hooker, and lived to the age of 81 years.

On August 19, 1942 he was married to Lena Holland who survives him.  At an early age in life he professed faith in Christ and united with the church at Lower Hills in Hamilton County.

His profession in life was that of bookkeeper, at which he was very efficient.  His friends and neighbors are all grieved at his passing, but it is a great consolation to know that he has gone to reap his reward for having lived a good faithful Christian life.

His outstanding characteristic was: - that no one ever heard him speak a harmful word of anyone.  He had one sister, Mrs. Fannie Witter, who departed this life many years ago; and one brother, Marshall Davis, who departed this life in 1955.  He leaves to mourn his departure three nieces; Mrs. Mariam Houser of California; Mrs. Bette Staker of New York and Mrs. Pauline Schoelank of Michigan.  He leaves two nephews, namely Bill Davis of Rock Island, Ill., and Charles Witters of Lee's Summit, Mo.; and many cousins in and around McLeansboro.

But we all feel that our loss is his eternal gain.  It is a great consolation to all his friends to know that he has gone from his labor to his reward in Heaven.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Larner officiating.  Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
