TONKAWA -- Violet Alberta Galusha Hise, former resident of Ponca City, was
born March 8, 1919, in Perkins. She was the daughter of Perry Almond and Emma
Mahala Dunlap Galusha. Mrs. Hise died Monday evening, July 14, 2003, at the
Fairview Hospital in Fairview at the age of 84.
A graduate of Ponca City High School, she was married to Ralph E. Hise on July
31, 1940, and began their married life in Ponca City. Their first child, Connie
was born on a farm southeast of Tonkawa. They soon moved to Wichita, Kan., where
Ralph worked for Cessna Aircraft. They returned to Round Grove and later moved
to a farm northwest of Tonkawa where three boys, Joe, Jack and Jon, were born.
Ralph and Violet lived and farmed at that farmstead 38 years before retiring and
moving into Tonkawa. Ralph preceded her in death on March 24, 1996. For the past
two years, she has resided in Fairview.
Violet loved making quilts, afghans and crocheting. She received an award for
her many years as a volunteer at the Kay County Free Fair.
Survivors include her daughter, Connie Greer and husband Frank of Yukon; three
sons, Joe Hise and wife Trish of Cleo Springs, Jack Hise and wife Gayle of
Denver, Colo., and Jon Hise and wife Carla of Fairview; one sister, Bonnie
Chapin and husband L.L. of Ponca City; sister-in-law, Flora Galusha of Bixby.
Also surviving are six grandchildren, Bruce and Terry Greer of Talala, Kathy
Greer Smith and Val of Yukon, Kari Greer Ruehle and Greg of Lincoln, Neb., Kim
Hise Hensley and Todd of Markleville, Ind., Gayla Hise Martens and Bill of
Aberdeen, S.D., Crystal Hise Brinson and Adam of Bethany; nine
great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers
and two sisters.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 18, in the sanctuary of the First
Christian Church in Tonkawa with the Rev. Dr. John L. Bartlett officiating.
Burial will follow in the Tonkawa Cemetery under the direction of
McCafferty-Bolick-Green Funeral Home.
